Who is Joel Willoughby ?

As a son of a traveling missionary, Canadian singer/songwriter Joel Willoughby absorbed plenty of culture in his youth, having called a variety of places home—including Kenya, Uganda and India. And with such varied life experiences, that well-traveled, world-weary soul can't help but show up in the songs on Willoughby's debut, "Closer to Home" (2004).

Joel Willoughby has been playing drums in bands for over 10 years. He has played in indie bands in Minneapolis and has spent the past 7 years as drummer in local critics darlings Maplewood Lane. Joel has been playing guitar and writing songs as a side interest which has been developing over the past several years. He has one previous cd “illuminate” which was released in 2001 and he has shared the stage with various bands and songwriters alike at folk fests, clubs and in coffeehouses around the northwest and in the eastern US and Canada.
