Who was Betty McDaniel ?Michael Hart wrote a tribute to the life of Betty McDaniel " MY FRIEND and musical colleague Betty McDaniel died June 2, in Knoxville Tennessee, three days after receiving surgery for two brain aneurysms. She was two months short of her 50th birthday. Originally from Edmonton, she moved to Vancouver in the '70s. She became known for her electrifying sets with Roy ('Bim') Forbes and the Foreman Young Band; her abilities as a studio session singer; and her performances with 'Ladies in Lights,' a showcase for Vancouver's professional female vocalists. Her songs have been performed and recorded by dozens of artists, including Susan Jacks and Connie Scott, and she appears in the credits of a multitude of great albums as a back-up singer and/or arranger. She has been the British Columbia Country Music Association's Gospel Artist of the Year in 1993, 1994, 1995 and again in 1996. She performs solo, or as a duo with multi-instrumentalist Jim Woodyard, in churches, concerts, conferences, children’’s events and festivals. She also works as an inspirational speaker for retreats, workshops, banquets, women's groups, churches and Christian organizations. Betty travels regularly to the Southern Eastern United States, where her music and ministry are greatly loved. Since 1989 Betty released seven recordings of original gospel music, all of which continue to sell well and generate much personal contact from fans in Canada and the U.S. Her songs are heard on Inspirational, Contemporary Christian radio, and many syndicated children’s programs.
