For the purposes of David Spencer's Media Spin, we define media as:

• mass media is a term used to denote a section of the media specifically envisioned and designed to reach a very large human audience such a province, state or country. Some mass media is targeted towards a specific demographic such as age(youth, baby boomers, seniors), faith group, gender or activity (sports,music, fashion, entertainment).
• mass media distribution occurs through many vehicles including:
  • radio networks
  • television networks
  • mass-circulation of newspapers and magazines
• alternate media distribution occurs through many vehicles including:
  • blogs
  • listservs
  • message boards
  • personal web pages
  • podcasts
  • video hosting web sites
• The process of creating media occurs through many activities including:
  • journalism
  • music recording
  • radio production
  • television production
