Matt Tapley is the Associate Pastor of Lakemount Worship Centre

Born in Ottawa Ontario, Matt now calls Grimsby his home. Having had the privilege of being raised in a Pastor’s home, music has always been an integral part of Matt’s life. Growing up, there was always a piano to play in the Tapley house. At the age of 8 started playing drums, and then at 13 years of age Matt was given his first guitar.

Years of worshipping privately and publicly have developed a genuine simplicity and an ease with which Matt leads worshippers to honour Jesus. Soon after getting married to his wife Lisa in 1994, they began their life together serving in full-time ministry. Together Matt and Lisa have three beautiful kid

Matt has been leading worship in various church, conference and concert settings for over ten years. His song-writing brings an authenticity and originality to the worship he offers to God. These sing-able, heartfelt songs engage worshippers to truly make Jesus the centre of attention.

Matt has ministered throughout Canada, and enjoys the opportunity of serving at Lakemount Worship Centre, where Matt is the Associate Pastor.

Matt oversees Tehillah Niagara, (www.tehillahniagara.com), which is twenty-something worship gathering that meets every Monday night.

While it is difficult for any recording to truly realize the full scope of an artist, “Even Closer” is the closest representation of the diversity and passion that makes Matt’s songs stand apart. This project is the first full-production recording Matt has released to date. These songs resonate with intimate lyrics, skilful playing and beautiful melodies.

What do you believe is most important in worship? That God be the centre of all attention. Plain and simple. We can become distracted if we get focussed more on the music or the people around us. I want God to get the spotlight all the time.

What would you say is the theme of this recording? In a word: closeness. The theme of intimate relationship runs all through this recording. God makes an extraordinary offer to draw near to us if we would only draw near to Him (James 4:8). That’s an offer I can’t refuse.

What inspires your songwriting? The most inspiring thing about worship is the reality of offering something new to God. Giving God a song that’s never been sung before is a humbling and exciting opportunity. I love bringing a new offering to Him.
