For the purposes of David Spencer's Media Spin, we define media as:
- mass media is a term used to denote a section of the media specifically envisioned and designed to reach a very large human audience such a province, state or country. Some mass media is targeted towards a specific demographic such as age(youth, baby boomers, seniors), faith group, gender or activity (sports,music, fashion, entertainment).
- mass media distribution occurs through many vehicles including:
- radio networks
- television networks
- mass-circulation of newspapers and magazines
- alternate media distribution occurs through many vehicles including:
- blogs
- listservs
- message boards
- personal web pages
- podcasts
- video hosting web sites
- The process of creating media occurs through many activities including:
- journalism
- music recording
- radio production
- television production
