“Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army…As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men…and they were defeated” (2 Chronicles 20:21). The musicians were singing “Give thanks to the Lord, His love endures forever” a simple yet profound declaration, that, at the head of the army, puts the focus back on God’s abilities. MissionFest Toronto 2004 took steps in the direction of placing the artists at the head of the army with the performing arts stage hosting over 25 artists. All the artists were was offering back to God (in their own unique way) praise and thanks for all He’s done. During MissionFest 2005 had the pleasure of music from many genres, including international flavors, hip-hop, rap, contemporary-pop, Children’s music, country, gospel and more. MissionFest was honoured to host a 50-voice children’s choir led by Sam Acquah as well as a large Korean children’s choir led by Sunju. We also had breakdancing by Geoff Goring and liturgical and prophetic dancing by Ronda Nycha, Belma Vardy and Dianne Robinson. Jason Hildebrand did drama sketches and Christine Peterkin did live painting. The Performing Arts Corner hosted a creative, innovative, cutting-edge group of artists that is seeking opportunities to minister in our local outreach events and churches. The Southern Ontario Churches have a pool of artists waiting in the wings for whatever doors God will open. Let’s fling wide our doors and use our artists in churches to be the proclaiming tool in the army that God intends them to be.
