What are the Covenant Awards?

The Covenant Awards is an annual celebration of Canadian gospel and contemporary Christian music. Since 1978, the Covenant Awards have celebrated the best and connected artits and fans from across Canada. Founded by the Canadian Gospel Music Association, GMA Canada now carries on the tradition and produces the event.

Preparations for GMA Canada Week and the '29th Annual Covenant Awards are continuing to develop at a rapid pace as events and artists line up to be a part of this year’s festivities October 24-26th in Calgary, Alberta.

Events will begin with a Worship Night October 24th at Bow Valley Christian Church featuring downhere, Steve Bell, Matt Brouwer and Jon Bauer. Thursday and Friday will include the Canada Christian Music Conference, along with the Shine-FM Cross Canada Talent Search and the GMA Canada Industry Awards Dinner. On Friday, the Canada Christian Music Conference will continue followed by the pre-Awards show dinner and the 29th Annual Covenant Awards featuring Paul Brandt, Steve Bell, Carried Away and many more.

Recording artist Carolyn Arends and comedian Leland Klassen have been announced as the hosts for the 29th Annual Covenant Awards. Arends, whose long and successful recording career has provided her with multiple Covenant Awards, Juno Awards and Dove Award nominations will be joined by Leland Klassen whose comedy has been featured both on the “Bananas” DVD series and on CBC radio’s “Madly Off In All Directions”.

“Carolyn and Leland will provide us with a dynamic combination; with Carolyn’s love of Canadian Christian artists and quick dry humour being contrasted by Leland’s superb comedic timing and energy. We believe this will bring an exciting element to the awards show,” says GMA Canada President Martin Smith.
