Reunion recording artist Jake won all four Vibe Awards for which it was nominated in the inaugural Canadian Gospel People's Choice Awards, taking top honors as Artist of the Year and Group of the Year. The Canadian brother trio also received Song of the Year for "Believer" (written by Toby Penner and Eldon Winter) and Contemporary/Pop Album of the Year for its self-titled debut.

Accepting the band's first Vibe Award of the evening for "Believer" (which was prominently featured in the motion picture Left Behind), Toby said, "It's awesome that people got something out of a simple song I wrote while in my room a couple years ago. That's what gives me the real fulfillment to what I'm doing; that's what matters to me."

Jake performed "Brighter" and "Army of Love" from its sophomore release, Army of Love, on the program. The awards were presented on May 11 at the Telus Convention Centre in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and the program was taped for later broadcast in Canada.

The Vibe Awards allowed people across Canada to vote online for the first time for their favorite Canadian Christian/gospel artists in eight categories. The awards ceremony was a presentation of SoundsAlive in conjunction with the Canadian Gospel Music Association and Compassion Canada. For more information visit www.vibeawards.ca.

Jake released its sophomore project, Army of Love, on February 26, 2002, and will be touring in Canada with the Newsboys in June 2002. In addition to winning a Vibe Award, the band's self-titled debut received a nomination for a 2001 Juno Award for Best Gospel Album, and Jake was nominated for two 2001 Canadian Radio Music Awards for New Pop/Adult Group and Best New Top 40 Group.

For Jake, this outreach is fundamental in reaching people for Christ. "As Christians, we are called to help one another and make a difference in the world," states Marty. "Our plan is to get people plugged into organizations that are spreading love in our country and throughout the world, beginning in their own towns."
