January 5, 2009 I spoke with Judy from Client Services at Revenue Canada. She can be reached at 1-800-267-2384 She said that yes a domain name can be given as a gift in kind. The charity must be able to determine the fair market value of the web domain. It will be a gift of property. The transfer of ownership of the property must be done legally.

According to Revenue Canada Gifts-in-kind, also known as non-cash gifts, are gifts of property. They cover items such as artwork, equipment, securities, and cultural and ecological property.

A contribution of service, that is, of time, skills or efforts, is not property and, therefore, does not qualify as a gift or gift in kind for purposes of issuing official donation receipts. http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tg/p113/p113-e.html#P99_6372
