Wilma Derksen's story is one of faith transformed by trauma. She was living an average middle class life on a quiet street about 15 minutes from downtown Winnipeg with her husband and three children.

That changed on the 30th of November 1984, a seemingly routine Friday afternoon. Her oldest child, 13 year old Candace, phoned to ask for a ride home from high school. Wilma said no. It was the last time she would speak to her daughter.

Candace was abducted, hog tied at the wrists and ankles, and left to freeze to death in a storage shed 10 minutes from home. Her body wasn't found for six-and-a-half weeks. Her killer has never been found. There was no ransom note, no sexual assault - no apparent motive.
