What is The Maja Awards?

The Maja Awards is an annual competion and concert recognizing and celebrating Canadian Gospel music in Canada. According to founder Fitzroy Gordon, "maja" means "major or excellence". The Maja Awards has now grown to become Canada's national premiere gospel awards.

Mission Statement of The Maja Awards

The mission of The Maja Awards is to proclaim the message of Jesus Christ through Gospel Music, highlight excellence in the Gospel Music Industry, and reward those who have dedicated themselves for service to humanity.

Present Media Service of The Maja Awards

The Maja Awards provide opportunities for gospel artists to share their music with other Canadians. Audience members are provided with opportunities to hear and see a wife variety of original gospel music artists and ministries.

The Maja Awards presentation was established in 1985 in Toronto, Ontario. The Maja Awards was established with an emphasis to encourage and reward those in the Toronto Gospel music community for their diligence in ministry and the arts.

Founder, Fitzroy Gordon's work in the Canadian Gospel community has spanned over 20 years. From an artist to a promoter, a radio talk show host, television presenter and newspaper columnist, Fitzroy has been an active participant in various aspects of the Canadian Gospel experience. In addition to his work in the Gospel Industry, Fitzroy has established a successful career in the Canadian broadcast and print media.

The explosion of musicians, artists and multiculturalism in the major cities and provinces in Canada over the past decade, has inspired the Maja Awards Organization to revise the awards presentation in order to support a larger audience base and incorporate nation wide submissions. The Maja Awards Organization has gone through extensive reorganization, thus drawing on experienced and innovative individuals to make up their executive base. As a result of these changes and sound planning, the Maja Awards Organization is confident that its presentation will be instrumental in providing an important platform for participants in the Canadian Gospel music industry and community.
