CKBD The Bridge was Canada's first full time Christian radio station broadcasting on 600 AM from Vancouver British Columbia. The station was owned by Jim Pattison and run by his Jim Pattison Broadcast Group. "CJOR, after a six-year stretch as CHRX playing "classic rock," changed call letters in 1994 to become 600 AM The Bridge (CKBD), Canada's first Christian music station." -Source: BC Radio History On January 7, 1994 radio station CHRX 600 CLASSIC ROCK signed off at 6 pm by playing Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”. At 6 pm the sound of ocean waves and Christian music medleys introduced listeners to a new radio format for Canada. On January 9, 1994 at 12:00 noon, CKBD 600 AM “THE BRIDGE” officially signed on as Canada’s first contemporary Christian music (CCM) radio station with Rich Mullins' song “Awesome God”. Since then, CCM formats have followed in Edmonton, Ottawa and Calgary. -Source: Vancouver Radio Museum On July 31, CKBD 600 AM "The Bridge" dropped its contemporary Christian format for adult standards. -Source: Canadian Communications Foundation The Christian music format lasted from 1994 to July 1998. The station is now an adult contemporary secular station called 600 AM.
