What was CKBD The Bridge ?

CKBD The Bridge was Canada's first full time Christian radio station broadcasting from Vancouver British Columbia. The station was owned by the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group.

1994 Jan. 7: CHRX 600 CLASSIC ROCK signs off at 6 pm with Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” At 6 pm the sound of ocean waves and Christian music medleys introduced us to a new radio format for Canada.

On January 9, 1994 at 12:00 noon, CKBD 600 AM “THE BRIDGE” officially signed on as Canada’s first contemporary Christian music (CCM) radio station with Rich Mullens: “Awesome God”. Since then, CCM formats have followed in Edmonton, Ottawa and Calgary. Source: Vancouver Radio Museum

On July 31, CKBD 600 AM "The Bridge" dropped its contemporary Christian format for adult standards. Source: Canadian Communications Foundation


The Christian music format lasted from 1994 to July 1998. The station is now an adult contemporary secular station called 600 AM.
