Ken Campbell circa 2002

Who was Ken Campbell ?

Ken Campbell was a veteran Canadian churchman and served Christ since 1952. In fulfillment of a vow made to his first wife, at her graveside, with their two children in his arms, he became a Christian educator.

Ken Campbell has served as a founder, governor and interim president of the former Richmond College (1968-1982) and was associated as a patron of its successor Canada Christian College. He spoke at the Business Men’s Fellowship meeting at Fred and Barney’s Restaurant on Friday, March 5.

Campbell is the author of several books and worked on his fifth: “Driven by the Spirit Into the Wilderness”.

He has been a broadcaster, weekly host on 100 Huntley Street Nite Lite and a number of other programs on radio and TV. He was founder and President of Renaissance Canada Inc. (1974) and also founder and Director of Christian Liberation (1978). He was founder and President of Choose Life Canada (1984) and several other groups.

Ken Campbell died of prostate cancer.

The Campbells were married in 1960 and are the parents of five children. They have five grand- sons and one granddaughter.

The battle was already engaged back in 1960 when Prime Minister John Diefenbaker introduced Canada's Bill of Rights -- legislation which is still valid, but is widely ignored by courts and legislatures. It speaks of our liberties and their foundation in Christian principles, and of the importance of the family. Both are rapidly being eroded.

From that document in 1982 was extracted a phrase that became the Preamble of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms: "Canada was founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law." Few remember today the struggle that was waged by evangelist Rev. Ken Campbell and others to insert that statement into the Charter as it was being drafted. Few acknowledge that it is an historically accurate statement about Canadian history. There are many who want to disregard our nation's history, and to change that heritage -- even if they must use unconstitutional means.

Ken Campbell spoke out publically at the Toronto Metropolitan Church on behalf of Christians disgusted with this attempt to pervert and degrade the institution of holy matrimony.
