Garth Pereira, music director of NET Ministries of Canada and founder of Massive Worship, has been training musicians for the past 15 years. He has performed with well known artists/composers Andy Park and Jody Cross and led music for over 20,000 youth at World Youth Day in Toronto. He has worked with 12 different parish music ministries in establishing and revitalising their music for liturgy and youth ministry. He is an expert in training and transforming music volunteers into cohesive vibrant music ministry teams. He has had training with the Royal Conservatory of Music as well as Jazz studies. Garth will be speaking on the role of each person on a music team and giving practical do's and don'ts for the contemporary rhythm section.


CD Release
NET Ministries of Canada released their debut CD, 'Holy Is Our God'. All original music performed by Catholic artists. Live music performances, copies of the CD, snacks and beverages were provided. Event was held on Saturday June 3, 2006 at St. Augustine's Parish, 1060 Baseline Road Merivale.

Workshop Summaries A brief summary of each workshop that included in the previous Massive Worship Conference.



Acoustic Guitar - Mike Staples This workshop covers technique, different functions of the acoustic guitar in a worship band, the open chord concept and how to create a contemporary sound.


Keyboards - Garth Pereira This workshop covers how to go from a classical background to reading lead sheets, playing by ear, rhythmical piano playing and using pad and organ sounds.


Drums - Creating Your Sound - Jeff Babcock Discover what makes your sound unique as well as tuning for the room, head selection, muffling, stick selection, cymbal selection, studio vs. live tuning, obtaining multiple sounds from each drum, microphones and mic placement.


Drums - Coordination - Jeff Babcock Breaking the 3 limb barrier (working toward 4 way independence), strengthening your "weak" side, exercises to tighten your groove ("unison accuracy"), playing backwards, filling "over the bar," and playing with a metronome.


Electric Guitar - Mike Staples This workshop covers the role of the electric guitar in a music team, technique and ideas for gear and how to create sounds that work.


Bass - Paul Beaubien This workshop covers the role of the bass guitar in a music team, technique and how to lock in with a drummer or percussionist.


Percussion/Djembe - Lindsey Jantz Every contemporary music ministry should have some form of percussion. The Djembe (pronounced “Jim-bay”) is a great way to add percussion to a music ministry without a drummer. No prior experience necessary.


Vocal Technique - Anne Morrone This workshop covers important vocal technique every vocalist should know and how to care for your voice. Vocalists that do not play another instrument offered are recommended to also take the Leading Worship workshop.


Vocal Master Class - Anne Morrone In this workshop Anne will have different vocalists come up and sing a piece of music from their own repertoire and then offer hands-on training on their vocal technique.


"Sound" Mixing - James Lipoth No matter how good a group may be, the overall mix and sound system can make or break the sound of a group. Learn how to find and set-up a sound system and develop a good mix. Learn how to use EQ’s and compression, the secrets to a great sound.


Songwriting - James Lipoth/Lindsey Jantz This workshop explores the different ways of writing songs and what makes lasting songs good for corporate worship.


Are You Ready to be A Catholic Recording Artist? - David Wang Do you feel a calling to be a Catholic musician? Do you feel the urge to be the next Jars of Clay, POD or Switchfoot? Find out the real issues involved in taking your music ministry to the next level!

Leading Music in Liturgy - Pedro Guevara Mann Learn the importance of good leadership in Music Ministry and how music can help bring full, active, conscious participation in your congregation. Learn important guidelines when playing for Liturgy.


Effective Rehearsals - Pedro Guevara Mann Learn how to maximize the time you have with your musicians and keep your practices balanced without dragging on for hours. Also learn the importance of praying and growing as group spiritually.


Building Relationships on a Team - Christine Korneluk This workshop is about the importance of developing good relationships within a ministry team whether it be a music team or youth leadership team and the importance of fulfilling your ministry while building community and caring for one another at the same time.


Music Ministry with Children - Pedro Guevara Mann Learn practical tools to help lead a music ministry with children; powerful, fun, and children-friendly in a ministry that is vital to growth as a church.


Confidence in Leading - Jim Anderson Doing things with confidence and without confidence is a world of difference. Explore the true difference between a confident leader and an unconfident leader and the importance of being bold yet humble at the same time. Lectio Divina - Michelle Harney Learn the ancient form of prayer used by the saints to meditate and pray with the scriptures. It is a helpful yet simple way of listening to God in your personal prayer.
