Taylor University College & Seminary is a centre for Christian higher education, a place where students and staff can nurture both head and heart. Located in southwest Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Taylor occupies a beautiful, tree-lined 26 acre campus. The central “Campus Green” connects all of the main buildings while other landscaped areas provide places for quiet study, prayer, or simple relaxation.

Students at Taylor choose from a number of academic disciplines at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Founded in 1939, Taylor prides itself in a heritage dating back to its beginnings as Christian Training Institute. Today, as a designated university college, Taylor allows students to complete their post-secondary education in a uniquely Christian environment. Our seminary prepares leaders to serve in churches, missions agencies and marketplace ministries at home and abroad.

Bachelor of Music

Description: This two-year (63 credit) program is parallel to the first two years of music studies at most other Canadian universities and allows student to transfer 60 units of credit to the Bachelor of Music program at the University of Alberta. At the same time it enables students to take some biblical and theological studies and to participate in music ministries and other forms of Christian service.

Admittance Standards: Applicants to the AA: Bachelor of Music program must have achieved a level of proficiency in their major performance medium equal to or better than Grade 8 Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) and demonstrate a knowledge of music theory equal or better than Grade 2 Rudiments RCM. For those applicants not familiar with the Royal Conservatory standards, a sample repertoire list for your instrument and an outline of the theory requirements will be supplied upon request.

Evidence of performance proficiency and theory requirements can be provided by submitting a photocopy of RCM (or equivalent) examination results to the Music Department. For those applicants who do not have access to RCM examinations, a live audition or for those living more than 200km from Edmonton, submission of a recorded performance will be accepted as demonstration of proficiency. Auditions will be scheduled early in June. An information letter will be sent to all applicants outlining the details regarding live auditions and recorded auditions.

All applicants will take a diagnostic skills test as a pre-requisite to MUS 155 – Music Theory I and MUS 151- Aural and Keyboard Skills. At that time, those applicants who have not taken the Grade 2 Rudiments RCM exam will be assessed as to their ability to meet the theory entrance requirements.
